Honduras has introduced visa requirements for British citizens from 2024.
You may also be under the impression that a British passport opens doors to the world without paperwork, or that everything can be sorted out on the spot.
There is no such thing as a “visa on arrival”
Don’t believe that you can only get a visa from an immigration officer at the airport. Honduras does not offer a visa service to British citizens upon arrival.
If you arrive at your departure airport without a visa, the airline will probably not let you board at check-in. And if you do make it to the Honduran border, the officials will ruthlessly turn you away and send you back on the next flight. The whole holiday will be over before it even begins. Please note that as a hotel we have our own experience with this and draw on the real practice of the local airport.
How to proceed and what to prepare
You must have the visa physically in your passport before you board the plane. The entire process needs to be completed through the Honduran embassy in London.
The authorities sometimes change the exact requirements, but as a rule they will ask you for:
- A passport valid for at least six months after your planned return.
- A complete flight itinerary (confirmed flight reservations).
- A bank statement proving that you have enough money for your stay.
- Cash to pay the consular fee.
Honduran authorities do not have a reputation for being the fastest, so start processing the paperwork as soon as you know your travel dates. Waiting for a response can take several weeks.
The rules have changed and the only reliable source of up-to-date information is directly from the British Foreign Office website or directly from the Honduran embassy.
