Are you flying in from the USA? Are you flying in from Europe? In that case you should head towards Atlanta, Miami, Dallas or Houston. These cities provide direct flights to Roatan. Roatan’s airport is called Juan Manuel Gálvez International Airport and uses the international code RTB.
The airlines’ offers are subject to change and we recommend you always check the current connections.
The airport at Roatan is currently preparing to expand the number of runways they have in order to increase their capacity. In the future the airport should be able to accommodate transatlantic flights, which would open up for new routes for those travelling from Europe.
Tropic Air, Avianca and Cayman Airways offer connections with Central America. Look for connections via El Salvador, Cayman Islands, Mexico, Belize, Guatemala or Panama.
National flights run practically daily and there are very good connections between Roatan and La Ceiba, San Pedro Sula, Utila and Tegucigalpa.
You can also reach the mainland by using the regular ferry connection between La Ceiba and Roatan. The ferries are fast and modern. The trip takes about 90 minutes and is not suitable for those who suffer from sea-sickness. Tickets can be bought directly from the company’s website. You have to pass through security before boarding the ship, so make sure you arrive in good time.
